I have loved Waldorf dolls long before I ever had one of my own. I was very blessed to eventually have several here and there. As I learned more about them and what appealed to me most, some would come and some would go. This was a unique learning process because every Waldorf doll is really one-of-a-kind. Some do share similar traits, especially if they were made by the same artist.
I have been searching for the "perfect" one for a long time now. And when I finally found her, she disappeared and I thought she had gone to live with someone else. A few weeks later, she appeared again and I contacted the artist to arrange for her adoption.
She was made by Mamylale of Poland. She had already named her, but allowed me to choose another name for her because I already have a doll with the same name. So I chose the name Violet. In anticipation of her arrival, I ordered her a cuff bracelet with her name.
When Violet arrived, I was so nervous about opening the box. When I did, I was overcome by emotion. I was so happy to finally have my dream doll! She is everything I wanted and more!
There was one little thing that I wanted to change about her. So after admiring her for about five minutes, I got my scissors and cut her hair to have bangs. Yes, I really did! I knew I wanted to do this from the first time I saw her photos, and thank goodness it was quick and easy and I love her even more. I sent the artist a photo and told her what I had done. She approved! And her newest doll also has bangs and she named her after me!
I didn't think I had anything here that would fit her. But I found a couple of things that worked. I had to trim and hem the sleeves of the "chicken dress" but otherwise it fits her very well.
Here's Violet holding my granddaughter's Maggie, for comparison. Violet is 19 inches tall and Maggie is 12 inches tall.
In the photo, you can also see that Maggie also got a name bracelet. My
granddaughter was so happy that her doll got a bracelet too.
Here's another outfit that just happened to fit her. And she is holding tiny Enid, her new dolly best friend. They are the only two Waldorf dolls in my collection now.
This is Violet's newest dress, made by a talented Esty seamstress, who also drafted a pattern using the measurements I sent her. She did exactly what I asked for and did a great job. I didn't expect it to be finished so quickly. Violet and I both love it. She is wearing my daughter's baby shoes.
A sweet friend is making Violet a special "signature welcome home" dress. She is an amazing, talented lady and we look forward to seeing her wonderful creation. I am so blessed in so many ways, but especially with family and great friends.
I hope you enjoyed "meeting" Violet. I'm sure she will grace the pages of my blog often. I'm still pinching myself. I can hardly believe she is really mine.
