The one exception to this parade of comings and goings is Lexie. She is a Wichtel doll, pronounced "Wish-Tell" made by Schildkrot for German artist Rosemarie Muller. Rosemarie Muller also makes handmade dolls, which are even more beautiful and much more expensive. I was so smitten that I bought three of these dolls, including one of Rosemarie's handmade dolls. All are wonderful, but it was too many, too fast. Lexie is the only one I have kept. The Wichtel dolls have many different face sculpts.
Lexie started out as "Rosi" which is the Mio sculpt. Above is how she looked brand new out of the box. As cute as she was, I planned to change her when she got here. I changed her wig and re-positioned her eyes to face forward. She turned out exactly like I wanted.
This is Lexie now. I love the changes. She was very cute before, but now she is amazing. I'm so glad I took a chance and made her into what I wanted her to be. She is such a fun doll.
And so much fun to find cute outfits for. A friend and I started a face book group for them and are having a lot of fun with other collectors. We have over one hundred members already and some of them are seamstresses who make wonderful clothes for them. Let's just say that Lexie has a lot of outfits and shoes already!

Lovely to see a blog post from you. I enjoyed reading how much you enjoy this beautiful girl and I love the changes you made to her. I prefer her eyes facing forward as well. She looks so full of life.
How cute! I've never heard of these, but they are darling. I've got two old American Girl dolls (both Kirsten), and I cut one's hair so he's a boy now. They look like twins. I don't, (alas) sew for them, because I'm too busy making dolls. But I'm often tempted to get clothes made for them! They more or less stay in clothes of a "prairie" style, as in Little House On The. :~P
Oops--I forgot to ask: was it hard to change the wigs? I'd say you were brave to try it and I'm so glad you like the changes! She is adorable.

Hi Jan! Thank you! I first heard about them a little over two years ago. You should do a search just to see the enormous variety of these dolls, especially the customs.
About changing the wig, that was the easy part. I just use a spoon starting at the back of the head and working the spoon under the wig. When I got enough of it loose, I used pliers to carefully pull it off.
To change the eyes, the wig had to come off first. Then I used a hair dryer to soften the vinyl and cut a hole in the top crown area of the head. This part was hard! And scary! First time I ever tried this. After that, you have access to the eyes. I just popped them out and put them back in, facing the front. (It took some time to get them centered and looking normal. I took close up photos of her face to see if the eyes were positioned correctly. The camera can see what we sometimes can't. It was a big help!)
Then I used art wax to keep them in place. Similar to the stuff people use for BJD eyes. The one thing about these eyes is that they are glass and hollow, so you have to be very careful not to cut yourself on them, or break them. I sealed the head back up with art wax too and covered it with a silicone wig cap. The wig cap holds the wig very well.
